The Position

Metalenz is developing next-generation sensing systems for consumer electronics with metasurface technology. As an intern, you will help advance and support the design of our products in imaging and non-imaging optical technologies. A successful candidate will be able to draw from their body of knowledge in computational electromagnetics, numerical computing, and software development to craft the tools our teams use for product design.

What you’ll do

  • Apply your PhD work to our problems, learn about cutting-edge products Metalenz is developing, and get a taste for what it takes to productize meta-optics
  • Work with the modeling and simulation team to integrate your research and perspective into our Julia-language design framework and toolkit
  • Expand our system design capabilities, breaking free from the viewpoints dominating traditional optics design

What you’ll need

  • Currently engaged in PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Applied Mathematics, or relevant field and/or demonstrated excellence in relevant technical domains through open source contributions or publications
  • Technical background in computational electromagnetics, numerical computing, and optimization
  • Physics-informed neural networks (PINNs), surrogate modeling, scientific machine learning, and modern developments in solving partial differential equations
  • Optimization techniques and their application in electromagnetics, such as convex or Bayesian optimization
  • Comfort working with high-performance computing environments, especially Julia and cloud compute platforms such as AWS, or willingness to learn. Familiarity with Python, MATLAB or commercial/open-source E&M software such as Lumerical, CST Studio, or MEEP encouraged
  • Eagerness to write packages and tools that others will use and deploy them at scale

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively to coordinate and direct technical activities between Metalenz fabrication, metrology, applications, and design teams to deliver prototype optics to internal and external customers.
  • You’re the glue between the technical teams. You must be able to see the big picture, as well as dive into the details in whatever area needs attention.
  • Follow new projects from inception to prototype shipment.
  • Perform data analysis, comparing measured properties to design values, and root cause analysis of any gaps in expectations.
  • Analyze raw test data to extract relevant parametric information, and feedback to design and fabrication team.
  • Anticipate and resolve problems independently.
  • Create reports and give presentations to a wide variety of audiences… internal teams, external customers, each with different background knowledge.
  • Represent Metalenz in customer projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optics, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in some type optical device manufacture (component highly desirable).
  • Broad background in multiple functional areas, including design, wafer fabrication, metrology.
  • Specific experience in wafer fabrication and testing of optical devices (lasers, VCSELs, LEDs, waveguides, diffractive optical elements).
  • Skilled in statistical analysis of raw data using commercial packages like JMP, and able to draw conclusion and make recommendations based on limited information.
  • Able to communicate effectively with internal and external stake holders.

The Position

Metalenz is hiring a Senior Platform Marketing Manager to lead the definition and commercialization of our machine vision 3D sensing platform both from a hardware and embedded software perspective. The role is a key leadership position with high visibility both internally and externally and reports to the VP Product, Marketing and Business Development. This role will be headquartered in our Boston office, in a hybrid capacity. Expected travel for this position is approximately 30% as needed.

 

Responsibilities
  • Define Metalenz 3D Sensing machine vision platform strategy by synthesizing input from customers, partners, executives, engineering and sales
  • Develop actionable requirements for Metalenz’ 3D machine vision platform driven by market trends, customer requirements, product development, profitable business models and the capabilities of the underlying metasurface optics
  • Work closely with the Product Development organization to ensure timely execution of the product roadmap
  • Collaborate with the Research and Development teams to structure studies & POC solutions that will drive the future of 3D Sensing platforms in the nascent machine vision market
  • Support our global Business Development & Sales team, and collaborate with Marketing to define compelling messaging & collateral
  • Evangelize products and serve as the subject matter expert for internal audiences, customers, industry bodies, conferences and other market facing communications

Qualifications
  • We are looking for a highly creative, hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial company environment
  • 10+ years of product marketing experience, actively working on machine vision / sensor platform solutions (HW and SW) with 5+ years’ of machine-vision related experience
  • Deep experience researching and understanding client and market requirements for next generation 3D machine vision system to develop appropriate short- and long-term product roadmaps and plans
  • Hands-on experience with 3D Sensor Platforms, Machine Vision systems and embedded SW platforms
  • Demonstrated success delivering embedded Sensor Platform solutions to production
  • Ability to manage in a matrixed organization and work collaboratively to create a results-driven, team-oriented environment
  • The ideal candidate must be a self-starter and consummate team player who is comfortable operating with minimal oversight
  • Ability to operate autonomously & execute on strategic priorities with minimal oversight
