Meta-Optics Intern
    The Position
Metalenz is developing next-generation sensing systems for consumer electronics with metasurface technology. As an intern, you will help advance and support the design of our products in imaging and non-imaging optical technologies. A successful candidate will be able to draw from their body of knowledge in metasurface, diffractives, and optics and apply it to problems in meta-optic system design.
What you’ll do 
- Apply your PhD work to our problems, learn about cutting-edge products Metalenz is developing, and get a taste for what it takes to productize meta-optics
 
- Work with the design team to integrate new developments and viewpoints into our software toolkit
 
- Expand our system design capabilities, breaking free from the viewpoints dominating traditional optics design
 
- Apply home-grown techniques to meta-optic system design for a diverse range of consumer applications
 
What you’ll need 
- Currently engaged in PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Applied Mathematics, or relevant field and/or demonstrated excellence in relevant technical domains through open source contributions or publications
 
- Technical background in computational electromagnetics, diffractive optics, metasurface physics/optimization, or computational electromagnetics
 
- Comfort working with high-performance computing environments, especially Julia and AWS, or willingness to learn.
 
- Experience with MATLAB/Python or commercial/open-source E&M software such as Lumerical, CST Studio, or MEEP encouraged
 
- Eagerness to propose, develop, and test new design and analysis techniques

The base compensation range for this position is $5,500 – $8,500 per month. Our compensation ranges are determined by role and experience level. The range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in the noted geographic area.     Camera Software Intern
    The Position
Metalenz is developing next-generation sensing systems for consumer electronics with metasurface technology. As an intern on the software team, you will help develop applications that make use of our meta-optic camera systems. You will work with novel polarization imaging systems that require creative approaches to image processing and sensor integration. A successful candidate will be able to design, implement, and deploy software for testing and tuning these systems and for leveraging these systems in customer-facing applications.
 What you’ll do
- Design and implement software that make uses of our unique camera hardware
 
- Deploy, test, and optimize these apps on mobile devices
 
- Collaborate by writing documentation, engaging in code review, and commenting on design documents
 
- Engage with other teams (product, engineering, marketing) to design and deploy software that supports our goals as a company
 
What you’ll need
- Currently has or in the process of obtaining a BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or relevant field
 
- Strong programming skills in C or C++
 
- Experience with software engineering best practices (testing, version control, code review)
 
- Background in building and deploying applications for embedded systems (through coursework or previous projects)
 
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with image processing fundamentals
 
- Experience with ARM-based systems and performance optimization (e.g. NEON, DSP)
 
- Prior work with Android & related tools (e.g. Android Studio) and mobile development
 
- Understanding of camera sensor interfaces and hardware abstraction layers (HAL)

    Software Development Engineer – Cameras
    The Position
Do you have what it takes to design a camera stack that unlocks your phone with large- scale security at a pocket-sized price?
Metalenz is looking for a Camera Software Development Engineer help develop our cutting-edge camera software stack. In this role, you will be an integral part of the software development team developing PolarID for running on mobile SoCs (eg Snapdragon).

What you’ll do
- Become a technical expert on components of the Metalenz camera software stack.
 
- Work closely with key stakeholders to ensure timely product delivery that meets or exceeds the customers’ needs.
 
- Develop camera-centric applications, image processing algorithms, and low-level drivers within the Android Camera Framework.
 
- Optimize software by leveraging the SoC’s camera architecture (e.g., Qualcomm CHI/CamX), image accelerators, and processing alternatives (CPU, GPU, DSP, etc.).
 
- Collaborate with optics, hardware, machine learning, and product teams to optimize system cost, latency, power consumption, and performance.
 
What you’ll need
- BS (MS preferred) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or other relevant academic field.
 
- 2+ years developing real-time C/C++ software, ideally running under Android or Linux.
 
- Have assisted in the development of simple and well-documented APIs to ease inter-company SW integrations.
 
- Comfortable with modern CI/CD pipelines and remote, log-based debugging.
 
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years working with image sensors and image processing pipelines.
 
- Solid understanding of optics, camera hardware, and image processing pipelines.
 
- Have shipped embedded software products to tens of thousands of satisfied customers.

    Metasurface Design Engineer
    
The Position:
We are seeking a highly motivated metasurface design engineer to join our Design & Computation team. You will design, simulate, and optimize advanced metasurfaces for current and next-generation products, collaborating with process, metrology, and manufacturing teams to translate the design into high-volume production.
What you’ll do
- Perform day-to-day metasurface design and simulation to meet product and performance specifications.
 
- Develop and maintain simulation workflows and modeling pipelines using in-house developed codes.
 
- Scientific compute, program, and automate design tasks using Julia and Python.
 
- Collaborate with process engineers, metrology team, and foundry partners to ensure design-for-manufacturing.
 
- Analyze the optical performance data, optimize, and iterate on designs to meet stringent optical and manufacturing requirements.
 
- Contribute to current product improvement and roadmap for next-generation and future metasurface-based products.
 
- Document simulation methodologies, design rules, and best practices.
 
What you’ll need
- MS.c. or Ph.D. in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
 
- Solid understanding of metasurface physics and diffractive/geometrical optics.
 
- Strong hands-on experience with FDTD (e.g., MEEP), RCWA (e.g., S4), and familiarity with other modeling methods (TMM, BPM, FEM, etc).
 
- Programming experience in Julia, Python, and MATLAB for simulation scripting, scientific computing, and workflow automation.
 
- Experience in collaborating with process development (lithography, etching, deposition), metrology (SEM/FIB, bench-top setup), and manufacturing teams.
 
- Proficiency with Git for version control and SLURM for workload management.
 
- Detail-oriented, self-driven, able to thrive in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
 
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with custom simulation tool development or optimization pipeline.
 
- Familiarity with design rule checking and integrating optical design with process limitations.
