DevOps Engineer
The Position

Metalenz is looking for a DevOps Engineer to accelerate our software team. In this role, you will own the tooling, build servers, and CI/CD pipeline that allows our software team to succeed in developing Polar ID. Beyond core DevOps responsibilities, we’re looking for someone eager to broaden their impact—whether that’s supporting software development, quality assurance, IT or other adjacent technical areas.

What you’ll do
- CI/CD Pipeline Management: Maintain Jenkins builds, GitHub Actions workflows, and automated release processes to streamline code integration and deployment for development teams.
- Release Engineering: Build and package software releases, manage versioning strategies, and ensure consistent, repeatable build processes across multiple projects and environments targeting embedded platforms such as Android devices.
- Compilation Infrastructure: Support software engineers with local build optimization, manage EC2-based compilation clusters, and dockerize build environments to ensure consistent, scalable compilation processes across teams.
- Developer Tooling Support: Maintain GitLab repositories, configure branch protection rules, manage access controls, and provide technical support for development tools and processes.
- Development Support and Troubleshooting: Resolve build failures, debug compilation issues, and troubleshoot development environment problems to unblock software engineers and maintain their productivity.
What you’ll need
- BS (MS preferred) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or other relevant academic field.
- 1+ years working in or managing cloud-based build systems.
- Experience in python and groovy code development.
- Comfortable with modern CI/CD pipelines and remote, log-based debugging.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years managing cloud services for engineering development.
- Familiarity with Android OS build flow
- Solid understanding of optics, camera hardware, and image processing pipelines.

Software Engineer – Computer Vision Algorithms
The Position
Metalenz is developing next-generation sensing systems for consumer electronics with metasurface technology. As a Software Engineer, you will help develop computer vision and image processing algorithms to work with our engineered meta-optic camera systems. A successful candidate will be able to implement existing and new computer vision algorithms for 3D scene reconstruction, segmentation, and biometric tasks.
What you’ll do
- Conceive and implement computer vision algorithms using our unique meta-optic capabilities and bring truly secure authentication to the mass market.
- Work in facial identification, presentation attack detection, and scene synthesis.
- Implement your algorithms on our unique camera hardware.
- Assist the hardware team to guide development and provide a clear understanding of necessary specifications for task performance.
- Collaborate by writing documentation, engaging in code review, and commenting on design documents.
What you’ll need
- MS or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or relevant field and/or demonstrated excellence in relevant technical domains through open-source contributions or publications.
- 5+ years’ experience building computer vision solutions.
- Broad understanding of methods and tooling, from OpenCV to deep learning approaches (i.e. Tensorflow, PyTorch, Jax).
- Knowledge of cameras, image processing, and computer vision techniques.
- Experience building computer vision algorithms for biometric and/or facial ID applications.
- Familiarity with software engineering best practices (version control, data provenance, code profiling and unit tests).
- Proficiency in Python, C++, and/or Julia.

Software Development Engineer – Cameras

- Become a technical expert on components of the Metalenz camera software stack.
- Work closely with key stakeholders to ensure timely product delivery that meets or exceeds the customers’ needs.
- Develop camera-centric applications, image processing algorithms, and low-level drivers within the Android Camera Framework.
- Optimize software by leveraging the SoC’s camera architecture (e.g., Qualcomm CHI/CamX), image accelerators, and processing alternatives (CPU, GPU, DSP, etc.).
- Collaborate with optics, hardware, machine learning, and product teams to optimize system cost, latency, power consumption, and performance.
What you’ll need
- BS (MS preferred) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or other relevant academic field.
- 2+ years developing real-time C/C++ software, ideally running under Android or Linux.
- Have assisted in the development of simple and well-documented APIs to ease inter-company SW integrations.

Meta-Optics Intern
The Position
Metalenz is developing next-generation sensing systems for consumer electronics with metasurface technology. As an intern, you will help advance and support the design of our products in imaging and non-imaging optical technologies. A successful candidate will be able to draw from their body of knowledge in metasurface, diffractives, and optics and apply it to problems in meta-optic system design.
What you’ll do
- Apply your PhD work to our problems, learn about cutting-edge products Metalenz is developing, and get a taste for what it takes to productize meta-optics
- Work with the design team to integrate new developments and viewpoints into our software toolkit
- Expand our system design capabilities, breaking free from the viewpoints dominating traditional optics design
- Apply home-grown techniques to meta-optic system design for a diverse range of consumer applications
What you’ll need
- Currently engaged in PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Applied Mathematics, or relevant field and/or demonstrated excellence in relevant technical domains through open source contributions or publications
- Technical background in computational electromagnetics, diffractive optics, metasurface physics/optimization, or computational electromagnetics
- Comfort working with high-performance computing environments, especially Julia and AWS, or willingness to learn.
- Experience with MATLAB/Python or commercial/open-source E&M software such as Lumerical, CST Studio, or MEEP encouraged
- Eagerness to propose, develop, and test new design and analysis techniques
