The Opportunity

Metalenz is the global leader designing, manufacturing and selling metasurface based “flat optics” that are revolutionizing the 3D sensing market. Today, our optics improve the performance of time-of-flight and structured-light sensing systems, and tomorrow they will enable entirely new 3D sensing platforms that can sense an objects distance, shape and size, creating depth maps and identifying surface characteristics at levels of precision currently reserved for the most expensive lab equipment.

This next generation of machine vision capabilities is enabled by a single small and affordable 3D sensor based on our revolutionary PolarEyes technology, and fits into any Smartphone, Robot or Consumer Electronics device. Metalenz is a growing, venture-backed start-up spun out of Harvard University in 2016. The company has the exclusive worldwide license to the portfolio of foundational intellectual property relating to metasurfaces developed in the Capasso Lab at Harvard University, and has more than 20 patents on innovations that simplify and improve optical devices across multiple 3D sensing markets.

The Position

Metalenz is hiring a Senior Platform Marketing Manager to lead the definition and commercialization of our machine vision 3D sensing platform both from a hardware and embedded software perspective. The role is a key leadership position with high visibility both internally and externally and reports to the VP Product, Marketing and Business Development. This role will be headquartered in our Boston office, in a hybrid capacity. Expected travel for this position is approximately 30% as needed.


  • Define Metalenz 3D Sensing machine vision platform strategy by synthesizing input from customers, partners, executives, engineering and sales
  • Develop actionable requirements for Metalenz’ 3D machine vision platform driven by market trends, customer requirements, product development, profitable business models and the capabilities of the underlying metasurface optics
  • Work closely with the Product Development organization to ensure timely execution of the product roadmap
  • Collaborate with the Research and Development teams to structure studies & POC solutions that will drive the future of 3D Sensing platforms in the nascent machine vision market
  • Support our global Business Development & Sales team, and collaborate with Marketing to define compelling messaging & collateral
  • Evangelize products and serve as the subject matter expert for internal audiences, customers, industry bodies, conferences and other market facing communications
  • Balance short-term tactical needs and long-term strategic goals


  • We are looking for a highly creative, hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial company environment
  • 10+ years of product marketing experience, actively working on machine vision / sensor platform solutions (HW and SW) with 5+ years’ of machine-vision related experience
  • Deep experience researching and understanding client and market requirements for next generation 3D machine vision system to develop appropriate short- and long-term product roadmaps and plans
  • Hands-on experience with 3D Sensor Platforms, Machine Vision systems and embedded SW platforms
  • Demonstrated success delivering embedded Sensor Platform solutions to production
  • Ability to manage in a matrixed organization and work collaboratively to create a results-driven, team-oriented environment
  • The ideal candidate must be a self-starter and consummate team player who is comfortable operating with minimal oversight
  • Ability to operate autonomously & execute on strategic priorities with minimal oversight
  • Ability to manage customers and work with teams in different time zones
  • Willingness to travel as needed
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • MSEE and/or MBA or equivalent experience
